Thanks to First National Bank of Cortez’s assistance and creative lending, Denkai's operations have become a success in Montezuma County and we are excited to finally have the opportunity to make the leap into LaPlata County. Denkai’s relocation to the Hesperus facility begins on December 6, 2023. Denkai plans to continue large animal rescue efforts and operations at the Hesperus location.
Denkai Animal Sanctuary relocated its large animal operations to Montezuma County in 2017, even though the initial goal was to relocate in LaPlata County. It was not financially feasible to pursue property in LaPlata County at that time, so Denkai purchased a property near Yellow Jacket, Colorado, and installed necessary infrastructure for the large animal operations.
To further expand pet animal rescue and services in Montezuma County, Denkai owns and operates the Adoption, Retail and Veterinary Center business at 209 West Main in Cortez, Colorado. Operations at this location include pet animal rescue, adoptions, veterinary services, and a retail store all of which support Denkai’s mission.
Effective immediately, Denkai’s Yellow Jacket, Colorado, property is for sale. This property includes an 1800 square foot house, 24 acres (with six-foot pipe fencing and cross fencing separating three pastures), horse facilities, and irrigation.
Proceeds from the sale of this property will go towards the purchase of the Hesperus property; however, even after the Yellow Jacket property sale, the Hesperus property will require a mortgage payment. Denkai will continue to diligently seek funding opportunities and income sources in order to minimize expenses and maximize funding and care for the animals.
Contributions and donations, either in-kind or monetary, in support of our efforts to provide rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming to animals in need, are very much appreciated.
We are deeply grateful and appreciative to our supporters, media, lending institutions, staff, and everyone who has helped make our organization successful since 2004.
Over the past approximately twenty years, Denkai has provided aid to approximately 34,000 pet animals, equine and farm animals in need. This has been accomplished through low-cost veterinary services, animal rescue efforts, food and medical donations for owned pets, and aid to local and state municipalities.
