Director of At-Risk Youth: Kristin Des Marais
Denkai Animal Sanctuary is seeking funding to research and develop a program
for at-risk youth that will take effect beginning January of 2008.

This program will focus on cultivation of leadership, team building, and
self-confidence through utilization of animals and outdoor education. Research
for such a program will include its sustainability.
Denkai Animal Sanctuary is fulfilling a niche in the surrounding Larimer,
Weld and Laramie County communities that has not yet been tapped in to. The
Sanctuary currently works with several youth groups, mainly out of Fort Collins
who have routinely volunteered services.
Our Sanctuary has also consulted with many officials working in the fields of
health and human services, in group homes and with juvenile programs who have
expressed a desired need and want for work with animals.
Recently the Pioneer School came out to the sanctuary and learned
first hand from Suzi with the Humane Society of the United States about Horse
Slaughter and how they can make a difference. These wonderful volunteers helped
to walk dogs, brush horses and even feed a few homemade molasses treats to the
cows and horses. Below are some pictures from the days activities.
